Dragon’s Prophet is a new MMO being published by SOE. We want to go over the game a bit and discuss what we think SOE’s new strategy is.
What is Dragon’s Prophet?
Dragon’s Prophet is an MMO Fantasy game. For thousands of years dragons have struggled to control the land of Auratia. Now a new threat looms on the horizon. This game sells itself on a pet system. Instead of a standard pet, you capture and train your own unique dragon. The dragon then becomes an integral part of your adventure. In fact there are over 300 types of dragons.
Dragon’s Prophet Basic Information
So far we know a few things. It will have an auto-targeting system like other games. However they are claiming that theirs is superior in some way. There are starting zones called Bakra and Satuma. Bakra will be a central area teeming with monsters. Satuma will be a large plain with lakes and rivers, which is also surrounded by mountain. As you can see from the media we have provided, the art style is quite nice so far.
Why is Dragon’s Prophet Indicative of the SOE Strategy?
Right now, MMO games are huge. They are a huge selling point. Sony has had no fantasy entry into this market. PlanetSide 2 was their science fiction entry. With this new game, they will have a competitor in each style of market. In our opinion we believe SOE is trying to gain a massive presence in the MMO market. This view is cemented by the recent focus they have had on their PSN network as well. If SOE gets a serious foothold in each sector of the market, it will change the industry deeply.
