Flashpoint will soon be resetting the DC universe coming up soon. While they are claiming that this is a good jumping in point for fans, everyone else knows it is just a cash grab.
Somewhere between irony and stupidity, there is DC’s decision to re-invent their universe with Flashpoint. Why is this so ironic and stupid all at once? They’re having the infamous Geoff Johns head up the effort, a man known for resetting any and all progress made with some of DC’s biggest titles.
Most notably, bringing back Hal Jordan and Barry Allen after huge amounts of progress with Wally West and Kyle Rayner. Johns has made a career of reverting story progress, destroying years of writing in the process. So what can we expect to see from this? Most likely, more of the same.
One of the most hated men in comics, Dan Didio, has also weighed in on the issue; “We looked at what was going on in the marketplace and felt we really want to inject new life in our characters and line, this was a chance to start, not at the beginning, but at a point where our characters are younger and the stories are being told for today’s audience.” Says Dan DiDio.
For those who don’t know, Dan DiDio is to comics what Bobby Kotick is to gaming. He basically makes everything he touches turn to crap. Many long time fans have wished to see him gone simply due to his lack of professionalism, if for no other reason. Flashpoint would just be another disaster in his already impressive record.
This hints that we’ll also see Flashpoint stories on par with the absolutely disastrous Wonder Woman reboot. If it isn’t clear by now, DC comics has not learned anything from their past mistakes. They are just going to keep making more and more until the fans decide that enough is enough. By all indications, a bad situation for hardcore fans is going to become even worse.
