CRYENGINE has recently been released on Steam. “So what?” you are probably saying. However this means a lot of things for gamers, indie developers and how Steam is going to be handling software in the future. We’ll explain why to you shortly so come with us. There IS time to explain.
The Impact of Steam CRYENGINE on Indie Developers
While you could access it before this the media blitz is going to cause more people to take notice. We will see many more developers pushing the fact that they are using this for their games. As a result our second point comes up:
The Impact of CRYENGINE on Gamers
If you like the system rejoice because you are going to be seeing more of it. If you do not like it then you should tell your favorite developers not to use it. This will likely also influence the types of games which we are seeing as well.
The Impact of CRYENGINE on Steam
Getting this on there is a huge boost to the platform. Now other big names in game development and accessories will come running to them. With this comes the fact that one day Valve might go public. We may be seeing the birth of another industry giant here. We could also possibly see everything a gamer would want on one platform.
The bottom line of this is that this is bigger news than anyone realizes. While it may not immediately shake up the industry it will send a shock-wave through it that will lead to change down the line.
A Monthly Subscription to CRYENGINE
The inclusion of the engine also adds something Steam developers had toyed with before but hadn’t pushed: Monthly Subscriptions. We hope that this does not become the norm but it probably won’t. Other developers have this option in-game but not everyone jumped on the bandwagon.
For those of you who want to get it now it costs between $9.90 and 8.33 a month depending on your plan. For some of you this may be worth it. If you want to take a look at the features then visit their Steam Page.
