Cosmochoria and the New Shmup

In an age where every possible scoring system has been exhausted in one way or another designers are going to have to think out of the box. Cosmochoria is attempting this with the shmup genre as well.

Cosmochoria in a Nutshell or a Microcosm

You are the last space “man” left alive in a desolate universe. Aliens have destroyed life on your planets, possibly on all planets. You have to plant the life again while fighting off aliens who attack you at every possible turn. While you do this you will drift from one planet to the next trying to get everything back in order.

Cosmochoria and the Genre

Why is it a shmup? You are the ship. It also has upgrades and artifacts in order to make the character more powerful. In many ways it’s a free-roaming arena shooter. Another big part of it is from what we’ve gathered some upgrades carry over. This is an incredibly popular part of most arena shooters today.

The Art and Music of Cosmochoria

It has a very cute 2D style that still looks like someone really cared about putting work into. It also has an original indie soundtrack by “IIkae and Zebra”. The animations so far are nice but we expect them to add a bit more detail to the background of the universe later on. Something can be cute and quite beautiful as well.

Check Out Cosmochoria Yourself

If you already think this game sounds like a great idea then head over to Steam Greenlight to have a look. You can also check out the demo on their site. This is an early version but it is always good to see developers put it out there for people so it can be judged. We hope that this game continues to improve. Keep your eye on it.
