Chibi-Robo will be the first in a new segment we like to call “games to replay”. We’ll be going over some of the best games of all time. If you missed them, go play them now. If you didn’t, go replay them.
It occurred to me that we needed this segment when talking with a kid in a Ventrilo server. He asked what the original game Tribes was because he didn’t know. We want to help inform people on these.
While these aren’t reviews, none of the games you will see here would deserve less than a 5/5. They are either true timeless classics or at least advanced the genre in ways that hadn’t been done before.
So what do you do in Chibi-Robo?
Basically you play a tiny robot that has to make its family happy. You do this by cleaning floors, helping other toys and defeating the forces of evil with a buster weapon. Strangely enough this is all done in a third-person sandbox style similar to GTA but better.
Chibi-Robo’s real charm lies in the fact that everything is so polished. Even cleaning the floors has special and well done music. The graphics are all crisp and clean, with a polish that runs through the entire game.
That’s cool, but why should I play Chibi-Robo?
It has some of the best songs out of any game ever. The above video has two versions of the song and in both English and Japanese the music is great.
But it’s more than just music. Chibi-Robo weaves the music into it’s story sequences with likeable characters such as Giga-Robo. Some of them are nothing less than heart warming.
Pretty much every section of the game had something to make you smile. It also has collecting, but you don’t feel pressured to collect things just to beat the game. On top of that there are platforming elements and mini-games to round out an attractive package. And of course there are some running and gunning elements against the “Spydorz”.
But how can I play Chibi-Robo now?
You can still find it used in various stores or on E-bay. Overall you can still get it very cheaply. It’s easily worth $60 USD, but you can check it out for much less. They also did a game called Park Patrol but it’s not nearly as good.
