Sometimes you just want to go back to some older games. Castle Breakers combines breakout with the sword swinging of Legend of Zelda. All of this in a voxel package.
Simplicity and Castle Breakers
While by no means an incredibly deep game, it does seem quite fun. You simply knock a “wrecking” ball into various enemies and walls. You can also explore a world and gain new spells. There are even boss battles. Overall it combines many of the things old games like this had to make them fun such as:
- A map to explore with different areas
- Various spells to get over time
- Secret areas
- An RPG system with powers and equipment
The story is fairly simple as well. You play as the last of the Castle Breakers, an order of knights. You travel around doing massive property damage to evil land owners. Only you can terribly annoy those who own evil castles and employ evil guards. Works for us.
The game also has battle maps for a bit of variation along with bosses. An NPC known as the Dwarf King will clear different areas for you to enter as time goes on.
The Castle Breaker Kickstarter
Right now you can check out the Kickstarter and even play an early version. For those who want to donate there are lots of different perks to get:
- Get the game for around 10 dollars
- Special t-shirts
- Name a Knight
- Name a Castle
- Top contributors get a real arcade machine
The game will also run in any browser on the Unity engine. That makes it highly accessible for people. While cutting edge things are great we sometimes want to feature games everyone can play across all platforms. The only complaint we could see with it is a lack of originality. It seems fun but not the most innovative game.
