Capcom is starting to get the point

Capcom has caught quite a bit of flack on DLC. On-disc DLC has become a byword for Capcom bashing. However Capcom has started to offer some free DLC as well.

The days before DLC

Before DLC Capcom was known for releasing quality games. They would regularly update these, sometimes as new games. The Jojos series is an example of a game they updated. Few people complained because even the additions were significant. We saw very few useless additions.

The History of Capcom DLC

Capcom had some DLC with some games such as Dead Rising. They also had minor costumes in their games. All of it was fairly minor for a long time. However people started to get really mad over Capcom DLC with Street Fighter X Tekken. It contained on-disc DLC that could have just been in. At the same time we see costume DLC coming out. The costumes, while fun, added little to the game. These trends agitated some gamers. Some gamers even decided to start hating on Capcom.

The free update to Capcom’s Resident Evil 6

The free update has a great number of useful additions

  • A better, more flexible camera
  • Improved subtitle options
  • Ada Wong’s campaign will be unlocked at the beginning. You can also choose to have an optional AI partner.
  • ‘No Hope’ difficulty will be added to every level

What this trend means for Capcom

We are very excited to hear about this trend. We hope that they will have a fighting game in the future without DLC characters. Even better, they could make this their new policy.

Capcom Unity Site

Another point of contention for fans

Among many fans, people are upset at what they see as a simplification of games. Mashing the buttons is now a hallmark of the Resident Evil series. We are glad to see they listened on the DLC. We hope the listen and provide some deeper games for one sector of their fan base. If you feel the same way, head to Capcom Unity and talk to them yourself. Fortunately we have seen some strides to appease this complaint. Just look at Darkstalkers Resurrection.
