Caffeine is a game we’ve seen on Indiegogo more than once. Both developers and those who contribute to their projects have something to learn from the approach to funding being taken by the developer of this game.

May was the end date for their previous project on Indiegogo. Now they have a new one very shortly after. Indiegogo is not only set up to allow this but to have developers benefit from it as well. Many gamers have widely differing opinions on this.
Flexible Funding and an Advantage for Caffeine
Some may have noticed that both campaigns have flexible funding. Nothing in the rules says that there is anything wrong with it so even if a campaign fails they can continue until they get the amount they need. As long as they can keep putting rewards up they can get funding in increments. Those who contribute to campaigns should take note of it but there is nothing wrong with doing this.
What Caffeine Teaches Buyers
Some argue that this use of flexible funding is a bit dishonest. While we respect their opinion we disagree. Anyone donating to crowdfunding should know what they are getting into. If flexible funding sits badly with you, don’t donate. If your Kickstarter manager has a questionable mental status try to avoid that one. Sites such as these give you warnings right from the start, no one wants to be scammed but at the same time it’s up to buyers to protect themselves.

In the far future of space you are stuck on a space station which has suddenly been abandoned or had inhabitants vanish. You have to find out what happened to everyone by finding clues and using the rotating nature of the environment to your advantage. In short it’s an atmospheric puzzle game with elements of horror.
One major plot point in the game is that everyone in the future is addicted to caffeine.
Supporting the New Indiegogo for Caffeine
Right now their newest campaign has launched with a lower goal and 33 days left. As long as they can continue with this system eventually the game will be funded. Other developers should judge for themselves whether they want to take a similar path.
