Unfortunately there isn’t much going on in gaming right now. So I’m going to review Buddy Complex for you. Will this utterly generic looking show have something special? Find out.
Story Complex
The story focuses on what else, several unreasonably beautiful boys and girls with mechs. It begins with Watase Aoba who is living a normal life. A normal slice of life if you will. He has the normal sister, mother etc and a picture of his dad being totally awesome.
It then proceeds to introduce other characters such as Yumihara who is an unreasonably fresh faced girl. Mechs come in from the future through a wormhole without a great reason.
Of course the main character is somehow very important to them due to time travel. Oh boy time travel. A story like that is hard to do for excellent writers, and an absolute disaster for an average one. The girl who loves him came from the future to stop the people hunting him and she does for a bit. It is not over there as you might expect but if it’s interesting for you then check out what happens yourself.
Boring Complex
Unfortunately the story does not take off from the start. It gets a bit more exciting near the end but is underwhelming until then.
Art… Forget it, the Art of Buddy Complex
The art is nice, it’s well animated and has decent shading. It isn’t going to amaze you but it is good enough in my opinion. It seems like they really do put effort into that area. The CGI is also quite well done. Not something that you see a lot. The fights are also very well done. You cannot really tell though because the picture quality of current fansubs aren’t great.
Final Verdict: Watching
So much happens at the end that I’ll give this a second shot. However the time travel and lack of interesting characters is really hurting it. Hopefully it improves later but I’m going to give it 1 or 2 more episodes before it is dropped.
