Something strange and interesting from a new company, Greater Good Games. On the surface Break Blocks is a puzzle block game. The twist is that it is a break dancing game alongside it. However it isn’t just that, this game is using a unique business model.
Break Blocks and what Greater Good is attempting
Break Blocks is being sold in a pay-what-you-want model. That means you pay whatever you want for 1 game. Does that sound crazy? It is not. And we will explain more in the next subhead. They will be donating proceeds to Doctors without Borders, and they donate more the more you buy. You can check out the Greater Good site and buy their game here.
The NFL is a nonprofit, if it works for them it will work for you.
While such a thing would have been unheard of early on, it works today. Not only do you get the positive press attention of a charity, you get some big tax breaks. Take note, developers, this is a viable business model. It has been used in other sectors such as with Liquid Highway. Not only can you pay your normal wages to your employees with this model, it is extremely stable. This is a model you should use if making games is important to you. And as far as making actual money with this model? The NFL is a nonprofit organization. Look it up yourself. You can also look up how much money they pay their people. Hint: It is a lot.
Yeah but what about Break Blocks itself?
The game itself is a bit different. Somewhere between Bust-a-Groove and a normal block game. You go one-on-one with everything from pirates to zombies to see who is the dance master. Hardcore gamers may not be impressed, but it is a fun diversion. More importantly it sets the stage for future development. We hope to see more great things in the future from Greater Good Games.
