Bastion, after its much lauded Xbox 360 debut, is coming out for PC August 16th.
Bastion with is a third-person action-RPG which combines a classic gameplay style with some advanced storytelling. Supergiant games is releasing their first major game on Steam first. It’s important to note that this game won E3 critics best of show, a prestigious award to say the least.
The gameplay will remind players somewhat of Dark Cloud. At the end of each level you collect cores which will allow you to add buildings to your town. You also collect shards which allow you to add more levels on to your buildings. So much like in some classic games, Bastion literally lets you help build your game world.
There are also many classic RPG elements in this game. Players will upgrade their equipment throughout the game and complete challenge courses to improve themselves in other ways. Overall the combat is engaging and fun as you work your way through the level based structurel.
But what makes Bastion stand out more than any other game in its genre? That would be the “Dynamic Narration” system. The game has a very special narrator known as Rucks. Rucks is a wise old man who gives invaluable information during the game.
What makes this section of the game so impressive is the fact that Rucks changes his narration based on your actions. Your choices, equipment and even your town can add to or modify the things Rucks says. On top of that he is used for vital story exposition. He will explain many things that the player and sometimes the character have no way of knowing.
Bastion has already proven itself on Xbox 360 Live Arcade, so the PC shouldn’t be very different. We will have an interview with one or more of the game’s developers in the future. Check back in and scope it out.
