Baby Steps
Baby Steps starts off showing Ei-chan at a competition and the viewer learns that he has only been playing tennis for a year. During a break in the competition it shows Ei-chan making notes about the game. He appears to do this all the time since he has many notebooks. The show then goes back in time to show how Ei-chan started in tennis. This shows that Ei-chan was just an honor student that took good notes before he decided to get some exercise on his free day. He came to the free trial to see if tennis was how he would get his exercise. Ei-chan had a hard time with just the warm-up, which has lead him to question whether he wants to join or not.
Baby Steps is starting pretty interesting for a sports anime. Ei-chan is not a sports fan or really good at sports in the beginning. He is only good at taking notes, which from the scene at the beginning appears to be how he gets good at tennis. Ei-chan will analyze the opponent like he does his notes in class. Having a main character in a sports anime using there brain along with their muscles is interesting. I also like that the show appears to have a love interest already.
Overall it was different from the sports anime I have seen so far where the main character already some of what it takes from the beginning. Usually they are naturally gifted. Having a character who has to work for it in a different way could be pretty interesting.

Isshuukan Friends
Isshuukan Friends is about Yuki who wants to become friends with Kaori, but she refuses. Eventually Yuki eats lunch with Kaori every day, but they continue to not be friends. Kaori explains at the end of the week that she does not make friends because the next week she does not remember them. When the next week comes Yuki sees that Kaori was telling the truth and tries to become her friend again.
The idea behind Isshuukan Friends that a guy tries again and again to get a girl to like him has been done before. For instance in 50 First Dates the same idea is there except with dating. It does not look like Yuki will stop with just being Kaori’s friend in time. So maybe they will be working on having a relationship after a time.
Even if Isshuukan Friends is not a new idea it would be fine if it was interesting. This first episode of the show is not very interesting. It is pretty slow and mostly revolves around there small talk and games during lunch.
Overall if the show stays the way it is then it will be just another boring slice of life show. Hopefully something amusing will happen with Yuki dealing with her memory.
Status: Watching one more to see what happens the second time he makes friends with her.
