Perfect World Entertainment has gone from being a developer of games with dubious quality to promoting a distribution platform. The Arc platform is not only their answer to having the company grow but also a new distribution platform. We’re going to go over it today since it’s an interesting turn for them.
The Arc Client Itself
The interface runs fairly well and looks nice. It also has all the social options, friend lists and other things we come to expect. From that point of view it’s actually rather nice. It does not revolutionize the industry UI standards but it works well for what it is.
The Arc Client Games
So let us go down the games briefly for you and give a brief description:
- Blacklight Retribution – a terrible little F2P shooter with awful mechanics and p2w
- Star Trek Online – An terrible MMO drawing on the popularity of Star Trek
- APB: Reloaded – Just bad
- Battle of the Immortals – Why was this made?
- Path of Exile – A decent hack-and-slash RPG
So those are the facts and you can test them yourself. Draw your own conclusions about the setup from that.
The Arc Client and Making Money
By putting all of them together if one person likes a game then they are likely to turn to another game from the same company. As counterproductive as it seems at first the F2P model makes much more money than the normal model. Any company can get ahead by using a system like this.
Checking Out the Arc Client Yourself
Those who want to see what we are talking about can download it for yourself here. As usual don’t just take our word on the client or the quality of the games. Look it over for yourself and think for yourself as usual. As always we could stand to have a little more of that in the industry today.
