Jagex has picked up the interesting indie game Ace of Spaces. This article is for the new fan of Ace of Spades. We will be going over a bit of the history of the game. Then we will go over what it means for such an underdog style title to be picked up.
What is Ace of Spades?
Put simply, it is Minecraft with guns. In the basic game you each build bases and attempt to capture the intelligence. The early version of this was fun but needed some work.
What it means for Ace of Spades to find a publisher
Finding a publisher means many things. Let us go over a few:
- A Steam launch in December 2012
- New weapons
- Future support for the game
- New advertising and outlets for the game
- A new look
With all these positives comes the fact that it now has a publisher. This means that the game will not have the same flexibility. It may even go in a new direction. However it is too soon to see whether Jagex will change it significantly. Coming to Steam will completely change the fan base. Will the original fans of the game hang on? I will for one.
Ace of Spades and the original fan base
Unfortunately not all of the original fan base was good. You had players who would break fortifications of others while yelling “stop being autistic.” It looks unlikely that the fan base will get worse when Ace of Spades moves to Steam.
Where Ace of Spades is now
You can check out the new site and new look here. We hope that the game will stay true to their roots. If they keep the core of the game it should be great. Overall we are happy that Ace of Spades found a publisher. Now it won’t just be relegated to history.
