A Hat in Time Spotlight

A great many of us enjoyed Banjo-Kazooie and other 3D platformers with collecting mechanics. A Hat in Time is an attempt to revitalize that genre.

The Appeal of A Hat in Time

The game looks, and plays, like many 3D platformers of old. It has the same bright graphics with varied colors. A large collection of different enemies is being planned as well. In a great many ways this is the spiritual successor to those games.

The Gameplay of A Hat in Time

The gameplay focuses on  collecting items and using various mechanics. These include everything from traditional jumps over lava to grappling. We would expect to see upgrades as the game goes along as well. The game of course has a wide variety of different collectibles for unlocks. There should also be a way to change your hat later on now that they have met their stretch goals.

The game will also feature a Co-op mode so that two players can enjoy it. They will first have it set up for split-screen gaming but they may have some other modes later on.

The Story of A Hat in Time

You play as “Hat Kid” who is on a quest to defeat a… Mafia of Cooks? Well yes that is the story. The Mafia of Cooks have far-reaching plans throughout the universe. The story will take you through tropical paradises and haunted manors. There is also a rival character known as “Mustache Girl.” Well, alright then. You travel through time fighting various threats and a new villain shows up each chapter.

A Hat in Time on Steam Greenlight

If the game looks good to you then check out their Steam Greenlight page. Considering how popular the game has become they probably will end up on Steam if that matters to you. It matters to us at least.

Supporting A Hat in Time

Their Kickstarter has already succeeded but you can still get Kickstarter games and bonuses. The game will also be on both Windows and Mac so Macintosh owners might be interested. We’ll continue to cover it later on as it might even get a Wii U version.
