While we’re huge fans of most other media, we do like the Desura crowd and they are having their Indie of the Year voting now. Come vote with many others on the best game of the year. We’re going to explain why we think it is interesting.
Indie of the Year Shows where the Market is Going
Minecraft won in 2010 which set the stage for Terraria in 2011. Right now you can vote for any of your favorite games to win. White horse candidates include Risk of Rain, The Stanley Parable and Rogue Legacy. These were all very fun games as well.
Indie of the Year Delivers Funding
Those who end up winning big get a share of $15,000 in prizes. It helps the developers get additional funding for their future projects. Will this make a difference to the companies? Almost definitely for some of the mid-size to smaller games that win.
This is also important if you are a developer. If you have a game in development or out chances are you already have something up on this. This is a vital time where you want people finding out as much as you can about your games.
Voting on Indie of the Year
You can get more details on the event at this page here. If you follow specific games on there you may have already found a voting button. If not you will have to register to have your vote tallied up. Last year Chivalry: Medieval Warfare won so be sure to vote for your favorite.
Some may level the criticism that the most popular game wins. This is true but many others will also get some additional funding. Plus voting is, at base, the most pure form of popularity contest possible. There is no real way around that.
