2012 Anime Review

The year is about to end, so we are looking back over the anime of the year to pick some of the best things we have seen this year.

Best Anime Opening or Ending

Pink Prinny: I love the ending to the first arc of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. The use of “Roundabout” from Yes really makes this video. Also the visuals showing the story of the masks makes it informative as well as nice to listen to. The visuals for the second arc do not seem to capture the same spirit as the first arc.

Scholar: Jojos wins for both opening and ending because of the songs. Roundabout by Yes was an amazing Choice. The second opening was also far better than the first.

Best Anime Artstyle

Pink Prinny: No other show this year has as impressive of an artstyle as Lupin the Third: Mine Fujiko to lu Onna. It helps to set the tone for the series and differentiate it from the other Lupin shows.

Scholar: Have to agree there. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is a close second but the shading and unique depth of the art in Mine Fujiko to lu Onna is incredibly amazing.

Best Use of Music in Anime

Pink Prinny: Kids on the Slope uses jazz music for all kinds of situations. The music brings the group together, helps end their arguments, and gives them something in common even after many years apart. No other show this year has used music in as many ways to aid the show as Kids on the Slope.

Scholar: This is a toss up for me. I really loved the music in Kids on the Slope. However I also thought Medaka Box and Jojo’s had very well-placed music. Kids wins it by a small margin though.

Best Comedy

Pink Prinny: My favorite comedy of the year is Daily Lives of High School Boys. It makes fun of the boy and girls doing cute things trends at the same time. It mixes reoccurring sketches with brand new material with great results.

Scholar: Bimbogami Ga was probably my favorite because I disliked it the least out of all of them. I was not a big fan of this year’s comedy.

Best Anime 2012

Pink Prinny: I think the Best Anime of 2012 is Kids on the Slope. It deals with friendship, first love, bullying, and many other subjects in an interesting way. Weaving jazz and the 1960’s into the story makes it different than most of the other shows coming out right now. The pacing was pretty great with this show as well. There was always something going on and no wasted time.

Scholar: This is a big toss up between Kids on the Slope and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. Unfortunately being the fan boy I am, I have to go with Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
