Volgarr the Viking Kickstarter

It is our duty to find particularity interesting Kickstarter projects. There is a new project that has already been fully funded called Volgarr the Viking. It has some very nice graphics in a 2D platformer format. It really reminds us of Genesis platformers.

Volgarr the Viking Gameplay

The Classic Old-School Appeal

The main draw of this game is the fact that it plays like some retro games. You have your standard power-ups, sliding and double jumping. Overall you will see quite a few things you might have enjoyed in Chakan or Super Ghouls and Ghosts. But lots of games have mechanics such as this. Some weapons even create platforms, although we have seen that done in many other platformers. They promise to have even more power-ups revealed later on.

Other Interesting Things about Volgarr the Viking

They also have a double jump mechanic with a special attack. There is also  a branching level system, which we have seen in shmups before. There will also be special gear similar to what you saw in Ghouls and Ghosts. You have a large number of abilities that change as you get different equipment.

A Return to Difficulty with Volgarr the Viking

Games are getting easier, as many people have lamented. Volgarr is one of many games that seeks to bring the difficulty curve back up. We are hoping that it will go back up to the old days of platforming. Perhaps without getting quite so ridiculous as hard mode I want to be the Guy. There needs to be a happy medium.

Volgarr the Viking’s Kickstarter

So you are probably wondering where to check this out. Well their main Kickstarter is right here. As you might expect you can get anything from soundtracks to copies of the game for this and more. Beta testers however will need $35, but you will be in the credits. This just goes to show you that betas have worth. So check it out.
