PIPA Jam from Ludum Dare

We can all rejoice now that it seems that SOPA is dead in the water. Whooooooo. Alright, rejoicing done. Now PIPA is threatening the internet in a similar way. As a result numerous authors from Notch to SOS are going to be protesting with a PIPA jam.

While originally intended to protest SOPA the focus has changed from SOPA to PIPA. The PIPA jam is currently underway and you can check out some of the games here. There are only a few PIPA jam titles so far.

At the time of this writing there are a few very silly games of note:

And many more. Notch will also be participating according to a tweet. However at the time of this writing we don’t have a lot of information on his game.

But what is PIPA? It’s a bill with very similar stipulations to SOPA, and is basically it’s brother. It will also give the government sweeping powers to control websites that they can label as infringing. Even Google has decided to censor their banner to protest. There is even a site for the SOPA strike.

This is also happening among other protests such as sites shutting down for various periods to protest SOPA. The Motion Picture Association of America released a statement on this as well. They claim some absolutely hilarious things such as the blackouts being “designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals.”. Yeah, that’s pretty funny after watching C-span and hearing these officials talk about nerds in a condescending manner.

Hopefully all of this support from the community and the jam will also shut down PIPA. Hey, it worked for SOPA. We will have more coverage for you on the jam and the events later on. It seems that the authors are in full work mode at the moment.
