Notch made a clone of his game Minecraft called Minicraft. This was for Ludum Dare 22 that had the theme “alone”.
Minicraft is a 2D top-down version of Minecraft. The maps are randomly generated containing rocks, flowers, trees, deserts, water, and other natural items. In order to win you must kill the Air Wizard, who is apparently the only sentient being in the world.
In the beginning you start out with just a workbench and a power glove. The power glove is used to lift big items like the workbench back into your inventory. In the beginning you can destroy most everything you can see, but it will take time. To be able to destroy things faster you will have to collect items and make tools. The tool system works like in Minecraft, better items make better tools which help to destroy things faster.
There are no friendly beings in Minicraft, only enemies. Watch out for your stamina marked with lightening bolts and you health marked with hearts. No stamina means you can’t attack or destroy things and if you are in water you can die if you don’t have stamina for swimming. If you no longer have hearts you die. When you die you have to start all over again with a brand new world. You can destroy trees to get apples that you can eat to regain health. Surprisingly, eating an apple will take quite a bit of stamina.
There are four different crafting stations the workbench, oven, furnace, and anvil. The workbench helps to make all the basic equipment like wood and rock tools, oven, furnace, anvil, lantern, and chest. The oven makes bread only. The furnace makes iron bars, gold bars, and glass. The anvil makes higher level tools of iron, gold and gems.
Like caves in Minecraft, Minicraft has an underground with better materials like iron. To get underground there are stairways that go down inside of rock formations. Underground has limited visibility, so you will need to make a lantern if you want to see what is coming after you. The lantern is big like a workbench and can be pushed around.
You are able to plant various things in this game as well. Acorns that you get from trees can be planted to make more trees. They grown very quickly. Flowers can be planted to make two flowers. If you destroy a cactus you get to be able to plant another cactus. If you have a hoe you can make rows for your plants. Sometimes when you try to hoe, seeds will appear. Plant the seeds in the rows you have made to have wheat grow. When the wheat is full grown hoe it again to get wheat and sometimes more seeds.

How do you get iron?
She explained in the article.
but she didnt, all she said was there are stairways that go down inside of rock formations, but i cant find any
You just have to keep looking. It is randomly generated, so I can’t tell you exactly where they are. Randomly inside of rock formations you can sometimes see a set of stairs that go down. You have to dig through the rock to the stairs and the stairs will lead you down to where the iron is.
how do you mine the rocks to the stairs
You can mine rock if you just keeping punching it. It is easier though if you make a pick. If you get enough wood, you can make a wooden pick that will help you to mine enough rock to make a rock pick.
I can’t mine the rock around the stairs, and I am using a rock pick. it is not in a rock formation though it is stand alone
I am guessing those are the stairs going up. That rock requires a gem pick. It leads to the end boss.
i think thats like obsidian
what can you do with glass?
You can make a lantern to light the way when you go underground.
how do you get gems and gold? I searched quite a while underground, but I couldn’t find any gems or gold…
The Minicraft Wiki should most likely have information on that. http://minicraftwiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page
