It is probably what you are thinking. Mojang is going to do it’s own video game jam, the Mojam, to support the Humble Indie Bundle.
The Mojam itself
The Mojam will start Friday, February 17th at 10 Central European Time. You can currently vote for the genre and theme here on their blog. The highest and lowest votes will be combined in a game. We are not sure that we want to play a Peter Molyneux Dating Simulator. He might tell us we can do some things on the date that we cannot do.
A bit different
In most game jams, multiple members create different games. They are then judged for quality and a few are featured. This one appears to be one game made by the entire team. The entire game will be streamed over 60 hours. How they are going to show the entire team working at once is beyond us. It would make for a very crowded multi-panel window. We assume they will be focusing on one member at a time during the stream. As of this point in time Oxeye and Wolfire games are making games as well for Mojam.
Mojam Incentives
The proceeds will be going to charity and there will be bonuses for reaching certain amounts. The one they have mentioned so far is rather underwhelming, having Aron make a Twitter account. Hrm. Hopefully they will have some much better incentives for people who donate as this goes along. They will be creating the game over 60 hours and everyone who donates will receive the game at the end.
More Mojam
The team will also be providing updates at @mojangteam and @notch. They will of course also have a stream up later on. We will be giving significant coverage to the event as well. So be sure to check back in at Nerd Age. In other news, everyone at Mojang seems to be really excited about Minecraft Legos.
Update: Mojam is now over. The Wolfire team will be streaming for the rest of today because of time differences.
The are three groups making games for this so far Mojang, Oxeye, and Wolfire. The only group that has a draft up at this point is Mojang with the game Catacomb Snatch. Below is a shot of one of the previous Mojang game builds where monsters just run around on the screen and one monster can shoot them down.
At the end of their streaming on Day Two Mojang put up a new game build. In this build you can shoot all the monsters and collects gems. You can also explore the world and as you explore the world lights up where you have been. Screenshot of the latest game build below.
Wolfire Games has been giving out dropbox updates to their game to the people in their chat. A screenshot of the latest build of The Broadside Express is below.
