First Impressions Winter 2012: Daily Lives of High School Boys

Daily Lives of High School Boys Otaku

Daily Lives of High School Boys follows three boys during their unusual life.

Daily Lives of High School Boys is made up of many little sequences on different subjects like Lucky Star or Azumanga Daioh, only with boys. The first one is an action sequence which gives a false sense of what the show will be like. After the action scene they get into what the show is actually about. Their are several scenes where the boys wonder about things and follow through on their thoughts with interesting results.

Ok boys remember back when you and your friends dressed up in your sister’s clothes and then checked each other out? No. Hmm. Ok how about the time you told lame ghost stories, got scared and made yourselves throw up? No again huh? My point is I don’t know whose daily lives they based this show off of, but it pretty interesting.  I was expecting this show to be more of a slice of life, but instead it gets a bit off the wall.

Boy 1            Boy 2             Boy 3

One downside of this show is that the characters are all pretty interchangeable. They don’t really have distinct personalities yet. Their only defining qualities are that the black haired boy is easy to manipulate and the glasses guy appears to be the leader. I even believe that at one point the show mentioned it wasn’t important to remember their names. Not something to brag about really.  Hopefully the characters will be fleshed out more as the series goes along. If not, my end review will just be referring to them as black hair and glasses guy still.

When I first heard this show was coming out I dreaded watching it and talking about it. After last season with Kimi to Boku being so extremely boring, I was not wanting to want another slice of life show about high school boys. This show was what Kimi to Boku should have been, which is actually a good show.

Overall I think this show is pretty funny and one of the best shows I have seen this season.

Status: Watching. Can’t wait for the next episode.
