The beginning of AKB0048 episode 4 is at the AKB0048′s personal concert facility. Before the AKB0048 get on the stage we get to see the 75th generation of understudies known at the cursed generation.
The cursed generation consists of two girls named Kanata and Mimori. Kanata is the older sister of Sonata and is not happy her sister has joined. Mimori has problems keeping her top up and is pretty optimistic considering the circumstances she is in.
The cursed generation has a sad story about how all the others failed or gave up until there were only the two of them. Then the two of them have not managed to become successors in the two years they have been studying. AKB0048 episode 4 has more depth than I was expecting to find in this show. The two girls left behind are sad about all their friends leaving them and their lack of success. With Kanata that partly shows itself in how she treats her sister when she shows up. She doesn’t want her sister to feel the pain and inadequacy that she feels from not measuring up. So while she talks about how her sister is too young and not ready she is really protecting her.
Flashing everyone is one way to introduce yourself. I wonder if any of the new recruits measure up to her.
Also Kanata tries to cover up her pain by saying that all she wants is revenge for her father who fought for the pro-entertainment movement. Which is surprising because I can’t believe that DES actually was able to kill someone. If she really wanted revenge though couldn’t she just join the fighters? She wouldn’t need to be on the stage. Kanata is trying to hide her pain by saying that she doesn’t really care about singing or dancing when they are both very important to her. If she pretends she doesn’t want it then people won’t know the pain that she feels that she is constantly passed up despite all her hard work and perseverance.
One of the AKB0048 girls points out when they are looking at the pictures of former centers that she still has greater aspirations than just being part of the group. Which in life would should always be striving for more and to be the best we can be at whatever we do. We should always be growing and learning.
So in the end AKB0048 episode 4 did not have any fighting or comedy really. It was a lot deeper than the standard episode for this series though.
