If you have bought the Indie Royale Graduation or Summer bundle, you have probably seen AirMech. However many of us overlooked the game due to being in a bundle. We finally sat down to play it and were pleasantly surprised.
What is AirMech?
AirMech is a mech combat game with RTS and top-down shooter elements. If you ever played Herzog Zwei, it plays a lot like that. You attempt to capture enemy bases and finally destroy their main base with a massed force of units. At the same time, you have to protect your own resources such as moneymakers and sabotage the enemy money stream.
Is it any good?
AirMech is quite fun because you have so many choices in building your army. You can pick your pilot and even an item to give you passive benefits. These include experience boosts or bonuses to the combat skills of your AirMech. On top of that, there are several different AirMechs to choose from. You can convert enemies with the UFO, bomb them with the Stealth Bomber or just blow them up with more traditional fighters.
On the depth of AirMech unit selection
Another major part of why the game is fun is that you have huge choices. Do you want to try an infantry rush? There are fixers, rocket bots and kamikaze drones. Do you want to mass tanks? They have a ton of tanks for you to choose from. If artillery is your thing, you can build a defensive line and shell the enemy into submission. It leads to some very diverse gameplay.
AirMech and Co-Op appeal
Another major draw of AirMech is that you can have matches of up to 3v3 people. You can fight the computer or other humans. These battles can get fairly crazy if everyone knows what they are doing. Explosions happen all around, while each team tries to capture the back bases or hold the middle.
AirMech is quite popular with the League of Legends Crowd
It has a system of “Kudos” similar to IP, and diamonds similar to RP. This means that those who have played quite a bit of League of Legends would enjoy it. The game also features Steam achievements. These are backed up by an internal achievement system that goes by the name of “quests”. By doing these quests, you can get a small bonus to your kudos or diamonds.
How can I get AirMech?
You can easily get the game by signing up here and downloading the PC version. It can also run in Chrome, but we greatly prefer just getting the download. You can also get your own Steam key if you buy the Indie Royale Summer Bundle. It comes with a free Indie Royale pet if you do. It will also be available on Steam later on.
